About the Author

Megan Piphus is an Emmy-winning puppeteer, ventriloquist, and singer, and the first full-time Black woman puppeteer on Sesame Street. Brave Like a Lion! How a Puppeteer Found Her Voice is her debut picture book, drawn from her own childhood experience of being a shy girl who found confidence through her puppets. Megan brings deep authenticity and a national platform through her Sesame Street work, with strong appeal to families, educators, and early childhood communities.

About the Illustrator

Niña Mata is an award-winning illustrator whose vibrant, jewel-toned mixed media work has appeared in numerous celebrated picture books. Her illustrations for Brave Like a Lion! have been praised for capturing the warmth, energy, and imaginative spirit at the heart of May’s story.
